Health Care Simulation Day
The Department of Advanced Biomedical Education (DABE) celebrated Healthcare Simulation Week 2026, held September 14–18, 2026. Healthcare Simulation Week is an annual, global celebration recognizing the important role simulation plays in improving the safety, effectiveness, and quality of health care. Established in 2017, the week highlights the educators, technicians, operations specialists, clinicians, and other professionals who make simulation-based education possible.
This year’s theme was “Sim Found Me”, highlighting the unique paths that bring people into the health care simulation field. Many simulation professionals began their careers in other fields, from emergency medicine and nursing to technology, education, theater, and the military, before transitioning into a role in simulation. Their experiences and diverse backgrounds contribute to the creativity, collaboration, and innovation that make simulation such a valuable part of health care education.
On Tuesday, September 15, 2026, DABE celebrated the week by hosting Simulation Day, an open-house event that invited the UMMC community to explore simulation-based education firsthand. Members of each DABE Core, including the Simulation & Interprofessional Education Core, Resuscitation Training Core, Judith Gore Gearhart Clinical Skills Assessment Core, and Anatomical Gift Program, shared brief personal stories about how “sim found them” and showcased the learning activities, equipment, and educational opportunities available within their respective areas.
More than 40 visitors from across campus participated in the event, getting an inside look at how simulation supports hands-on learning, interprofessional collaboration, clinical skill development, and patient safety.
Simulation Day provided an opportunity not only to demonstrate what we do, but also to recognize the people and experiences that make simulation possible. While everyone’s path into simulation may differ, those paths come together around a shared goal: preparing healthcare professionals to provide safer, more effective patient care.
